We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, here’s what we do about it.
How we correct stories
If a factual error is found in a published story, we fix it as soon as we can confirm the correction, and how we note it depends on how significant the error was:
- Minor errors, meaning typos or small factual slips that don’t change the meaning of the story, are corrected without a formal note.
- Substantive errors, meaning anything that changes a fact, a quote, a name, a figure, or the overall meaning of the story, get a correction note appended to the bottom of the article: what was wrong, what it’s been changed to, and the date of the change.
Every substantive correction updates the story’s “last modified” timestamp, so readers and search engines can see the piece was revised.
Reporting an error
If you spot something wrong in one of our stories, tell us: corrections@4libertynetwork.com. Include a link to the story and what you believe is incorrect, and we’ll look into it.
Retractions
If a story turns out to be substantially wrong or shouldn’t have run, we’ll say so clearly at the top of the piece rather than quietly taking it down.
